Names in the (re)construction of gender
Need some fruitful summer reading?
The latest issue of NoSo: the Nordic Journal of Socio-Onomastics was just online, with a special issue on “Names in the (re)construction of gender” guest edited by sociologist Jane Pilcher. The issue includes five interesting contributions on topics such as: the use of humour in patrilinear surnaming practices in Finland, men’s reflections on surname choices in Norway, negotiation of family identities through surname choices in Denmark, gendered first- and surname changes in the UK, names as ‘trans technology’ used strategically by youth in Australia, Ireland and Canda, as well as a special introduction to the issue by guest editor Jane Pilcher.
Happy reading!
