As the journal of the International Council of Onomastic Sciences, Onoma aims at publishing high-quality papers on all aspects of onomastics. Each yearly volume has a section whose goal is to focus on a particular theme and a non-themed section whose focus is on onomastics in general.

Trends in Toponymy 6

Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg
Trends in Toponymy 6 will take place at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from October 7th to 10th 2013. As the name suggests, the conference is dedicated to both new approaches in toponomastic studies and research on current toponomastic phenomena. The main aim of the conference is the discussion and interdisciplinary exchange about current findings, theoretical innovations and work in progress.

An International Workshop for Postgraduate Students of Onomastics will be held at the University of Glasgow from 4–5 April 2013, prior to the annual Weekend Conference of the Society for Name Studies in Britain and Ireland (SNSBI). The schedule is as follows:

The fourth Names in the Economy symposium will be held at the University of Turku in 14 – 16 June 2012. We kindly remind that the registration to the symposium is under way. Please, note that registering by 15 April 2012 you will take advantage of the lower registration fee. More information on the registration page.

To ICOS student members travelling from abroad who are attending the 24th ICOS Congress in Barcelona

The ICOS Board has decided to subsidize parts of your travel costs for attending the Congress. Please contact the Treasurer, Dr. Katharina Leibring, during the Congress (or, after the Congress by email to, giving proof of your Congress attendance) to submit your details about how this grant (30 Euros) can be paid out to you. The number of grants is limited, and they will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. No grants will be paid out before Sep. 9th (see below).
