ICOS 2014 Proceedings now published online

We are delighted to announce that Names and Their Environment. Proceedings of the 25th International Congress of Onomastic Sciences, Glasgow, 15-19 August 2014 has been published online today. The proceedings have been edited by Carole Hough and Daria Izdebska and are available for free download either by volume (five volumes in total) or by individual paper (organised by thematic section).

ICOS 2017 website launched

We are delighted to announce that the website of the 26th International Congress of Onomastic Sciences has now been launched and will be the place to visit over the coming months for details about next year's event, including the call for papers.

The Congress will be held at the University of Debrecen (Hungary), on 27 August - 1 September 2017, with the theme of 'locality and globality in the world of names'.


Onoma 52 Call for Papers

ICOS are delighted to announce that the special theme for Onoma 52 will be 'Asian Onomastics', guest edited by Sungjae Choo (Kyung Hee University, South Korea), and co-edited by Peter Kang (National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan) and Multamia Lauder (University of Indonesia).

Those who are interested in submitting a paper should submit a short abstract by 30 June 2016. For full details, please see the full call for papers:


Bill Nicolaisen 1927–2016

Professor W. F. H. Nicolaisen

It was with great sadness that ICOS heard of the death of W. F. H. (Bill) Nicolaisen on 15 February 2016, aged 88. Professor Nicolaisen was an internationally renowned name scholar and a former President of ICOS (1990-1996). The thoughts of ICOS members are with his family.

Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Onomastics in Baia Mare now online

The proceedings of the Third ICONN in Baia Mare (2015) have now been published online. All previous proceedings from this conference series can now be found here.

Société française d'onomastique: 27th Symposium of Onomastics

Paris will host the next international symposium organized every two years by the Société française d'onomastique. The event will take place on 3-5 December 2015 at the Archives nationales (National Archives) and will be devoted to the sources of onomastics and the urban toponymy of the French capital and its suburbs.

Third International Conference on Onomastics 'Names and Naming'

The North University Centre of Baia Mare (Technical University of Cluj-Napoca) is pleased to announce the Third International Conference on Onomastics 'Name and Naming' (ICONN 3), which will be held on 1-3 September 2015. The theme of the conference is 'the conventional/unconventional in onomastics.
